Well, after a long time coming, I finally decided to let ADMIN_Sublime go. It was quite a development process:
First, being contacted via email by Scott and the initial excitement of the idea of doing a full comic book
Then, the ups and downs of working up the script, doing the sketches and first page, then re-working the story/script, re-doing and doing new pages
The triumph of getting the first quarter of the book published
Then finding that the company that published that wouldn't be able to keep up with publishing or promoting
Both Scott and I had personal life changes, in my case moving from SC to AZ
And just the frustration building and dragging me and the quality of the artwork down
Until another publisher rejected the project based on the quality of the art.
The whole reason I'd stuck with this was to be a professional about it. But if the work doesn't look professional, that's going to hurt me just as bad as backing out of a contract.
With dread, I wrote to Scott and asked to be released, but instead of arguing with me, he agreed with grace and said this could have come much sooner as he's been too busy for the project for some time too.
But I have learned much, both in artistic practice, business skills, and in what it's like to do a comic book: how much time it takes, how to think in terms of panels > pages > entire book, needing to be consistent in style, cutting back on heavy text and using visuals more, etc.
There is a webcomic in my mind, the original story partially written: The Hotel. It will not look like ADMIN the majority of the time, and will be closer to my own natural style. I've been planning to even go so far as making maquettes of the main characters. I don't know when I will be able to start converting it into a script and so on, as I am currently moving right along with a set of short stories...but it's going to happen. I have spoken.
